For Immediate Release: NY and Maine Want In!

July 24, 2006 - Lynnfield, MA :: In a startling move, the governors from Maine (D - John Baldacci) and New York (R - George Pataki) have filed an joint injunction in Lynnfield Superior Court to force the Road Rally Planning Committee to include their states in the 2006 Island Pond Road Rally.

When reached for comment Baldacci offered, "We realize Maine's a bit out of the way, but we feel stongly about our ability to offer challenging options for Road Rally planners. Our citizens are surly, our roads poorly surfaced and the bugs are so thick they quickly blanket the windshield of even the most dilligent driver." When it was suggested that one team my actually drive in a VW Thing with the windshield down, Baldacci simply muttered, "Dear God help them."

Pataki continued, "New York is much more than Sex in the City, murder and the Yankees...' at which point this writer stopped listening.

Representatives of the Island Pond Road Rally Planning Committee were immediately dispatched to the local Barnes & Noble to pick up detailed maps of NY and Maine, though they would not confirm nor deny whether the injunction would indeed have an impact on the planned route. A hearing is set for Thursday morning at 10am.
