Newsflash: Hot Tub Committee On Recent Comments About Cleanliness
There have been quite a few comments about the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of the hot tub(s) in Island Pond and "it's just not right" says IPRR Hot Tub Committee Chairman Mark K.
"It's important to remember that the wood-fired water heater we use to heat the tub is steel and a bit rusty, so the water becomes a slightly rusty brown very quickly. Also grass gets tracked into the tub during the festivities and this contributes to making the water appear dirty. Both of these have absolutly no health risk and iron oxide is even very slightly antimicrobial. So, in terms of microbes the water is super clean. Please let Mark know if you have any hot tub-related questions by posting a comment to this post.
Also, we change the water each morning and add a mild amount of chlorine for safety. Regular hot tubs use the same water for weeks or even months so they need a huge amount of chlorine to keep them safe. Fresh water every day does not require any chlorine to be much safer than a typical hot tub. Think about the hot tubs is Japan. They change the water every day, but do not add any chlorine. Of course, you shower before you go in them, but many are public with many more visitors than we typically host.
You should not require excessive alcohol to enjoy the restorative benefits of a long soak in the IP hot and cold tubs. In fact, it's the early soaks that are often the most rewarding. Enjoy!"

All y'all is a buncha pansies to let something like a presumptive microbial count of 1,000,000 cfu/gallon (according to my calculations) keep you from the splendors of the IP Hawt Tub! Heck, even after my immediate bout with Group A Streptococcus* two years ago, I still hopped right in last year without abandon.
*Strep Throat. Dammit I got sick. Felt like the opening scene to Apocalypse Now, staring up at my bedroom ceiling fan during that summers' heat wave, freezing cold with a 103 fever.
My professional advice, behold the Hawt Tub, but only if seeing others' private bits doesn't weird you out. Also, as tempting as it may seem, I don't recommend DRINKING the Hawt Tub water as I did, inadvertently, that fabled year, when it contaminated my beer. (more on that later, when I submit my answers to Jim's five questions).
Even with a raging case of Strep, IP2006 was a blast - yes, it really is that fun.
To hear Greg blame an illness on the hot tub is laughable. Between the two hours of sleep prior to the Rally, the single barrel whiskey and choice cigars, it would be surprising if he didn't come down with something.
Let's put this one to bed. Don't drink the water. Don't suck your thumb. And certainly don't suck Greg's thumb... 'nuf said!
Not to mention that he spent the day being exposed to Joe (you can interpret that however you want to.
